TOHU

Located at the centre of the Cité des arts du cirque, TOHU is a place for dissemination, creation, experimentation and convergence of culture, environment and community involvement. Since its 2004 inception, it has become an example of sustainable development through culture.

Our 360 circular venue is part of the circus tradition and is unique in North America. This feature allows to receive rare performances and new creations. With 22,45 meters high and 40 meters in diameter, TOHU is an impressive venue that can accommodate up to 1200 people!

Cirque du Soleil

From a group of 20 street performers at its beginnings in 1984, Cirque du Soleil is a major Québec-based organization providing high-quality artistic entertainment. The company has close to 4,000 employees, including 1,300 artists from more than 50 different countries.

The mission of Cirque du Soleil is to invoke the imagination, provoke the senses and evoke the emotions of people around the world.

Cirque du Soleil has brought wonder and delight to more than 155 million spectators in more than 300 cities in over forty countries on six continents.

Ecole nationale de Cirque

Internationally renowned for highest-quality training, the School opens its doors to more than 150 students from around the world. The School’s staff, a dedicated team comprised of more than 50 teachers, lecturers and artistic consultants, provides students with exceptional resources. These passionate and experienced professionals have all made a mark in their respective fields, which encompass circus, education, sports and the performing arts, in Canada and beyond. With facilities that cater to all disciplines while promoting safety, the School provides a unique learning environment.

En Piste

En Piste, the Circus Arts National Network, gathers organizations and professionals from the Canadian circus arts sector and its mission is:

To advance the circus arts and raise their profile in the public eye with presenters, governmental organizations, businesses and communities.

To develop, consolidate and foster cohesion within the circus arts by encouraging creative initiatives, increasing the level of representation and the promotion of circus events, creating a framework and opportunities for professionals to discuss their trade.

To rally together organizations and individuals operating in the circus arts, or involved in their development, through trade events and conferences, by creating information and communication tools, and by rolling out a true specialized network representing the circus arts from coast to coast.

En Piste achieves its mission through five major mandates:

  • Concertation,
  • Representation,
  • Appreciation of the circus arts,
  • Professional development,
  • Community life.

The global strategy of En Piste is to work towards establishing favourable conditions for the development of the circus arts in Canada.

Christine Lefrancq

Museologist, digitization project manager for the Jacob-William Collection at TOHU.

As part of the digitization project, Christine oversees the main activities regarding the digitization of the collection and ensures its documentation to facilitate future consultation and highlight its content.

Christine is also in charge of loan management and exhibitions featuring the Jacob-William Collection.
